You may be asking: Why use a guide for fishing? The Caddis Fly Angling Shop can turn any fishing experience in to a memorable one. In a guided river trip, you can be sure of quality equipment, skillful local guides, experienced companions, and invaluable learning opportunities and memories.
We guide primarily on the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, including all of their respective tributaries. We also participate, organize and schedule trips on the Deschutes, Umpqua and Rogue Rivers. Trout fishing is available throughout the year. Steelhead fishing is best from June through November.
Most of our trips utilize world famous Mckenzie River Drift Boats. The boat allows the guide and angler to effectively cover 5-13 miles of river during the day; covering a variety of water types, maximizing the angler's chances for a fine day of flyfishing. Through our years of angling experience, we have identified the ideal tackle choice for our trips on the McKenzie and Willamette rivers. For example, on a typical trip the angler will rig up a 5 or 6 weight rod with a nymph set up, and reserve the 4 weight for traditional dry fly methods. Leaders and flies vary with the seasons, so your experienced guide can make recommendations based upon time of year, water conditions, and other factors. The Caddis Fly Angling Shop is always stocked with the hottest local patterns, which are available for purchase on the morning of your trip. If your don't have your own tackle, or would just like to try ours, we always have high quality tackle available for loan, at no charge.
Fishing in the area is typically good from March through November. The most prolific hatches will be from May through October.
Our full day trips last approximately eight hours. All trips initiate from The Caddis Fly Angling Shop. Lunch will be provided by the guide, along with a cooler and ice. All you should bring is the beverage of your choice. Half day trips are approximately four to five hours long and often attempt to utilize light conditions in either early morning or late afternoon/evening. All rates are quoted for two anglers. For an additional angler, please inquire when booking.
Our guides are licensed by the Oregon State Marine Board, and hold current first aid and CPR cards. We are experienced local fishermen who have guided on all of our local waters for many years. When not guiding or working at The Caddis Fly Angling Shop we are out on the water. Our guides are also experienced casting and fishing instructors. We pride ourselves on improving our own skills as well as the angler's we are guiding.
